The ONE Thing: Recommended Reading
The ONE Thing by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan is a book that, for me, was life-changing. It’s one of those books I pick up and read over and over again, as each read provides new insight. As I grow as a person, I have new perspective, and with fresh perspective, The ONE Thing yields different information, though the words never change.
I first discovered The ONE Thing via Kindle Unlimited. It was one of the ten free book rentals I could get at the time, and the title caught my eye immediately, earning it a spot in my library. “The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results” – now that’s a title!
The book came to me at a time when I was making the shift from freelancing part time, to fully committing to my business.Needless to say, I dove right in. Extraordinary results? That’s what I was looking for, and that’s what I found. I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll just give you a brief look into what I took away from the book and now implement as a part of my business (and life) strategy.
I’m all about ramping up better results in less time, and The ONE Thing allowed me to do just that. In Western society, we’re taught that multi-tasking is not only possible, but a trait of a good worker. Sounds good, right? Wrong. Our brains can only focus on one thing at a time, and multi-tasking is really justbouncing our attention around from one thing to another. It splits our focus, and makes us less effective at our work.
By choosing one task to focus on and seeing it through to its end, we finish the task efficiently and are able to move on to the next more quickly. Try this technique for a week and see how rapidly your productivity transforms. You’ll get more done, in less time. If it works for you – and it will – pick up a copy. It’ll be the best business decision you’ve made all week!
